The Presidents will discuss bilateral relations and cooperation in the EU and NATO. Security situation in the region and the entire world will be in the focus of the meeting. Measures to deter Russia’s threat and further measures to ensure security in NATO’s Eastern flank will be discussed.
According to the President, Germany is one of the most important partners of Lithuania. We enjoy comprehensive cooperation almost in all key areas as well as solid historic relations and long-term cultural traditions.
Germany also leads NATO’s forward presence battalion in Lithuania. During six months, the battalion has reached full combat readiness and has become an integral part of our national defense with social activity of its soldiers being visible in society.
Both countries enjoy bilateral partnership aimed at enhancing information security, fight against propaganda and strategic communication. Lithuanian and German national broadcasters – LRT and Deutche Welle – are engaged in active cooperation in this area through journalist traineeships and student exchanges.
Lithuania and Germany enjoy intensive economic relations. Germany is the second largest trade partner and the third largest investor in Lithuania. The highest number of foreign tourists come from Germany – some 175 thousand Germans visit Lithuania per year and show interest in Neringa, eco and rural tourism as well as health care services.
On the second day of the visit, Friday, 25 August, the Presidents of Lithuania and Germany will visit German and other NATO soldiers who serve at the Great Lithuanian Hetman Jonušas Radvila Training Regiment. Presently, the forward presence battalion is the place of service for 450 German soldiers who came to Lithuania together with military equipment and munitions.
