The bilateral political consultations at Oman's Ministry of Foreign Affairs focused on progress in legal and economic cooperation, and partnership in the fields of education and culture. Possibilities to further advance relations in the sectors of research, tourism, information technology, and agriculture were discussed. Oman's delegation was led by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi.
"The bilateral consultations between Lithuania and Oman that have been held since 2010 demonstrate that the two countries need to develop their relationship. Lithuanian information technology companies have made their first but secure steps in Oman. Many opportunities open up for companies in the food and agricultural industries, and for university cooperation," N.Germanas said.
The Secretary-General of Oman's Foreign Ministry stressed that Oman opened a window not only to the markets of the Arab States of the Gulf, but also to those of Asian and African countries.
During the consultations, officials exchanged opinions about the EU relations with the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), which is a regional organisation with 6 members: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. Currently, the countries cooperate in 14 areas.
"The Arab States of the Gulf and EU Member States remain significant trading partners. The GCC is the EU's fifth largest export market," the Secretary-General of Oman's Foreign Ministry said.
During the meeting with Oman's Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, the Lithuanian Foreign Vice-Minister discussed the situation in the Middle East and other globally important issues, such as the fight against piracy, current and emerging threats of terrorism.
The Ambassador of Lithuania Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė, who resides in London, presented copies of her letters of credence to Oman's Foreign Minister.
During the visit to Oman, the Lithuanian Foreign Vice-Minister also met with Oman's Minister of Transport and Communications Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Futaisi, the Commerce and Industry Ministry's Undersecretary for Commerce and Industry Ahmed bin Hassan Al Deeb, the Heritage and Culture Ministry's Undersecretary for Cultural Affairs Hamed bin Hilal Al-Mamari, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Sarmi, and the leadership of the Royal Opera House Muscat, Oman Information Technology Authority, and Oman Airports Management Company.
