Lithuania, while increasing development aid and aiming to contribute to the achievement of the goals set by the new United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, is gradually expanding the geography of the aid. In 2017, Lithuanian Embassy in Pretoria is implementing its first development project- “The education of South African youth in the field of corruption prevention”. The project is implement together with the well-known South African partner- “Corruption Watch”. Out of more than 20 South Africans, who applied for the scholarship to attend the Transparency International School of Integrity in Vilnius, the Embassy together with the “Corruption Watch” selected two candidates: Mzwandile Banjathwa ir Zamangwane Shabangu. The Embassy is paying for travel expenses and school fees.
During the event, Mzwandile and Zamangwane expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to learn about the new developments in the corruption prevention and the possibility to visit Lithuania. Martynas Taujanskas, the third secretary of the Embassy, greeted the participants of the program, handed them their visas and thanked the partners for the excellent collaboration. The executive director of “Corruption Watch” David Lewis and the Provincial Executive Office of the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) Lucky Leseane also expressed their satisfaction with the Lithuanian contribution to the anti-corruption activities in South Africa and their hope that the cooperation will continue into next year.
