L. Linkevicius noted that Lithuania and Canada are close allies of NATO, cooperating in international missions and operations, and in supporting the countries of the Eastern Partnership. The Minister thanked Canada for its contribution to the security of the Baltic States - in 2016 Canada announced that it would be leading one of the NATO Forces Battalions deployed in Latvia.
The Minister rejoiced that the Lithuanian community in Canada earned its part in Canada's history by contributing to the welfare and prosperity of the country.
L. Linkevicius also expressed the conviction that mutually beneficial bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Canada will contribute to the solution of regional and global challenges. In a letter, the Minister invited Freeland to visit Lithuania on an official visit and to discuss security, trade, bilateral relations and other issues.
