The President underlined that the world had lost one of the greatest leaders of the second half of the 20th century. "The people of Lithuania will always remember Helmut Kohl as a loyal and committed friend, a true patriot of his country who had worked in the spirit of freedom and democracy, dedicating his whole life for the good of the people of Germany," the President wrote in her message of condolences. She further stressed that Lithuania highly valued the important role played by Helmut Khol in reuniting a divided Germany and ending the Cold War as well as his major contribution to deeper European integration.
The President wished much strength to Helmut Kohl's family and loved ones as well as to the people of Germany.
