“The Lithuania-Japan relationship has gained momentum and is developing very quickly not only at the level of government, but also as regards businesses, cities, and sportsmen. Thus, the governments must continue to consistently support these efforts,” said Linkevičius. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister stressed that Lithuania and Japan had started building their relationship on the basis of historical and people-to-people ties, and moved to a new stage of their relations that would be dominated by high technology.
“Together with my counterpart – the Japanese Foreign Minister – we discussed further steps that will contribute to the deepening of bilateral relations. The Agreement for the Avoidance of Double Taxation will soon be signed by Lithuania and Japan. Moreover, we will soon open the talks on the signing of the Working Holiday Agreement,” noted Linkevičius after the meeting.
The Foreign Ministers shared their insights into the most important regional events. Linkevičius invited his counterpart to visit Lithuania on the occasion of the celebration of the centenary of the modern state next year.
In recent years, Japan has become one of the main partners of Lithuania in the Asia-Pacific region. According to statistics for 2016, Japan is the largest export market for Lithuanian goods in Asia.
