Minister Linkevičius thanked the U.S. Congress for its continued support to the Baltic states’ goals after the restoration of independence.
The meeting discussed security challenges facing the Baltic region and the whole of Europe, as well as the situation in Ukraine. According to the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Congress demonstrates strong support for strengthening NATO’s eastern flank. The Senators assured that both parties in the new U.S. Congress would consistently support the Baltic countries’ goals of protecting their democratic institutions against cyber-attacks and of countering Russia’s malicious propaganda. All sides agreed that sanctions against Russia must be maintained until the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
