The President underlined that the people of Lithuania saw Germany as a most steadfast partner and ally, sharing a common understanding of topical continental and international issues.
Dalia Grybauskaitė further emphasized that Lithuania highly valued German leadership in seeking solutions to the urgent challenges facing Europe as it took responsibility for the unity and prosperity of the continent, the future of citizens and for common security.
“We are grateful for Germany’s considerable contribution to the security of our region, for sending in significant forces and taking the lead of the NATO enhanced forward presence in Lithuania,” the President wrote in her message of congratulations.
She expressed her confidence that under Mr. Steinmeier’s presidency, bilateral relations between the Lithuanian and German people would grow increasingly stronger and that cooperation would be further enriched by ideas and initiatives of national and European significance.
Dalia Grybauskaitė wished the newly elected President of Germany continued success and wisdom in performing the responsible duties of his office as he worked towards stronger unity of the people of Germany and of Europe.
