Following her meeting with the Libyan Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj this week in Brussels and also in view of the discussion at the Foreign Affairs council next Monday, the HR/VP Mogherini discussed with Minister Lavrov the situation in Libya and the perspectives of the political agreement.
On Syria, Minister Lavrov briefed the HRVP Mogherini on the recent talks in Astana and the HRVP informed the minister of the European initiative with the regional players and on the upcoming Brussels conference on the future of Syria.
Mogherini and Lavrov spoke at length about the escalation of violence in eastern Ukraine. HRVP stressed the need to stop fighting immediately, and to work for a full implementation of the Minsk agreements.
They agreed to meet in the coming weeks.
