Dalia Grybauskaitė wished strength and fortitude to the families and friends of the victims, as well as consolidation to Italy in conducting rescue operations and overcoming the painful consequences of this disaster.
The newly elected President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani expressed Parliament's solidarity with the victims and their families of a number of recent earthquakes in Italy and the avalanche which engulfed a hotel on Wednesday.
Mr Tajani said he will do his utmost to help the Commission in quickly freeing up aid from the EU Solidarity Fund. He also thanked the Italian rescue services for their strenuous efforts in coming to the aid of the victims.
