The High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini met yesterday in Brussels with the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura to discuss the most recent developments in the Syrian crisis.
The HRVP informed de Mistura on the regional talks she has started, following her visits to Iran and Saudi Arabia, on the future of Syria, focusing on post-conflict, reconciliation and reconstruction once a political transition will be in place, in full support of the work of the UNSE de Mistura.
The HRVP also discussed with the UNSE the European Union's ongoing humanitarian initiative for Aleppo.
They exchanged at length views on the dramatic situation on the ground and the work of the United Nations, with the support of the international community, for getting the parties in the conflict back to the negotiation table of the political process, in Geneva.
