Lithuania’s Foreign Minister stressed the importance of the rule of law, media and political freedoms. “Democratic norms and principles will define the EU-Turkey relations,” said Linkevičius.
Lithuania’s Foreign Minister stressed the need of speaking frankly and of keeping the EU-Turkey dialogue on track.
Both ministers expressed hope that the EU-Turkey relationship would be based on mutual understanding.
According to the Turkish Foreign Minister, this week the arrests of leading figures and other members the People’s Democratic Party (HDP) on the suspicion of links with terrorist organizations and non-cooperation with law enforcement agencies were within the confines of the rule of law.
