The Political Directors discussed key items on the international agenda, issues related to the Middle East, the European Union, NATO and bilateral cooperation.
The Foreign Ministry’s Political Director Kačinskas said that “in today’s complex geopolitical environment it is more important than ever to expand the mutual dialogue in order to strengthen the international system that is based on international law and to overcome today’s challenges. Lithuania can learn a lot from Israel, both when increasing the country’s resilience and creating an innovation-based modern state, at the same time preserving and enhancing its historical identity”.
This is the second Baltic-Israeli Political Directors’ meeting. The first political consultation in the “3 + 1” format was held in Lithuania on 7 April 2016 in Vilnius. This format extends the bilateral Lithuanian-Israeli dialogue. Lithuania is interested in translating the mutual dialogue into higher quality levels of bilateral cooperation.
During the visit, Kačinskas also met with the Member of the Knesset, Head of the Israel-Lithuania Parliamentary Friendship Group Ksenia Svetlova and discussed possibilities of strengthening the Lithuanian-Israeli interparliamentary cooperation and building bridges between the two nations.
