The meeting also focused on guidelines on further cooperation for the dissemination of information about Lithuania, and on how to provide assistance to Lithuanian citizens in case of serious accident in Haiti.
Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister and the Honorary Consul also discussed the possibility for the citizens of Haiti to study in Lithuania.
Bekešius noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania had allocated EUR 10,000 to support victims of Hurricane Matthew. The hurricane hit the country on 5-6 October of this year. In 2010, the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry allocated EUR 14,000 to support victims of an earthquake in Haiti and contributed another EUR 23,000 to the UNICEF mission in Haiti in 2014.
This meeting took place on the margin of a meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs from the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and from the EU in the Dominican Republic.
