“Since the beginning of the cooperation in 1991, our countries have signed 14 bilateral agreements on trade, economic partnership, science, protection of investments and other fields”, said the Chancellor.
According to Mr. Mačiulis, the recent two years have marked particularly intensive relations. The Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius has had meetings with China’s Premier, Vice-Premier, took part in the Boao Economic Forum, there have also been visits by many high-level officials and business leaders.
“This witnesses the growing momentum in the dialogue between our states. We cherish our cooperation with China and are determined to deepen our partnership”, noted the Chancellor of the Government.
For the occasion of the anniversary of the diplomatic relations, the Inside-Out Art Museum in Beijing has displayed a huge Lithuanian photo exhibition revealing another glimpse of the Lithuanian photography. The exposition takes place in the museum halls on three floors between 10 October and 4 December presenting almost 200 photographs by 20 Lithuanian photographers.
During the visit to China the Chancellor of the Government also met with the member of the State Council of China Yang Jiechi and discussed the development of bilateral relations.
“China is the main trade and economic partner of Lithuania in Asia. Though in the first quarter of this year Lithuania’s export to China increased by 24 per cent against 2015, we still see a huge potential to further improve our economic cooperation indicators”, said Mačiulis. He also briefly presented the strongest Lithuanian areas including research and technological development, laser industry achievements, the logistics sector, and agricultural production, particularly noting transport and tourism.
Chancellor of the Government Mačiulis pointed out that the year 2018 would be celebrated as the year of tourism between the European Union and China. Therefore, preparatory works need to be done and the Lithuanian tourism industry should use this opportunity to present itself as an attractive touristic destination for the Chinese tourists.
The Chancellor of the Government participated in other meetings in the Chinese capital aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation, including meetings with Deputy Chief of the National Development and Reform Commission Ning Jizhe and other senior officials.
