In the bilateral meeting with Kosovo’s Foreign Minister, Linkevičius discussed bilateral cooperation, relations between the European Union and Kosovo, as well as the consolidation of Kosovo’s place in the international community.
During the meeting, the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy expressed support for Kosovo’s European integration and called for making use of Lithuania’s experience of its European integration. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister also emphasized the importance of the EU-mediated Belgrade-Priština dialogue and of the implementation of existing agreements.
Linkevičius welcomed the European Commission’s recommendations to lift the visa requirements for the people of Kosovo.
“We understand very well the importance of visa-free travel to the EU for citizens of each European country,” said Lithuania’s Foreign Minister. He also stressed the necessity for Kosovo to meet the remaining requirements.
On 4 May 2016, the European Commission proposed to lift the visa requirements for the people of Kosovo by transferring Kosovo to the visa-free list on the understanding that by the day of adoption of the proposal, Kosovo will have ratified the border/boundary agreement with Montenegro and strengthened its track record in the fight against organised crime and corruption.
In the meeting with Palestine’s head of diplomacy, Linkevičius discussed bilateral cooperation, the Middle East peace process and the situation in the region.
In the meeting, Linkevičius welcomed the dynamics of bilateral relations – the Lithuanian Representative Office in Ramallah was opened in 2013 and Palestine accredited its Ambassador to Lithuania this year.
Linkevičius invited the Palestinian Foreign Minister to pay a visit to Lithuania.
