HRVP Mogherini and Minister Wang discussed the shared global responsibility of managing migration and the large movements of refugees, and the commitment of both sides to swiftly and fully implement the 2030 Agenda. In this respect, the High Representative presented to minister Wang the new External Investment Plan adopted by the European Commission last week to support investment in our partner countries in Africa and the European Neighbourhood that by contributing to the development will also address the root causes of migration.
The HRVP and the Chinese Foreign Minister had also an exchange of views on the situation in Syria and on the need for the parties to respect the cessation of hostilities agreed one week ago, precondition for a political process leading to a sustainable and durable solution to the conflict.
On the agenda of the meeting was also the upcoming Brussels Conference on Afghanistan to be held in early October. HRVP Mogherini underlined the key role China can play at the conference. They agreed on the urgency to work on a national reconciliation process that can lead to a secure and stable future for the country.
HRVP Mogherini and Minister Wang discussed the state of play of the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action with Iran in view of the ministerial meeting the High Representative will chair later this week.
Finally, Federica Mogherini and Wang Yi exchanged views on some bilateral issues, following up on the EU-China Summit held last July in Beijing.
