The representatives of 12 countries adopted a Three Seas Initiative Declaration focusing on the integration of the North-South region into the single EU market based on cooperation in four fields: energy, transport, economy and the digital agenda.
According to the President, fair energy prices is one of the key preconditions for successful and rapid national and regional development as well as competitiveness.
In the Dubrovnik forum, the President underlined the importance of cooperation between the countries for ensuring energy security, eliminating dependence on a single source, and diversifying energy sources.
Dalia Grybausukaitė presented Lithuania’s experience in building the LNG terminal in Klaipėda, which freed Lithuania from the grip of the Gazprom monopoly and made the gas price drop by 23%. Lithuania’s power links to Sweden and Poland, which cut electricity prices by 16%, are also regarded as a model of success.
The President underscored the significance of regional cooperation and unity not only for ensuring energy independence, but also for countering dangerous geopolitical projects, such as the nuclear power plant in Astravyets, which fails to meet international standards, or NordStreamII, the development of which is driven by political rather than economic reasons.
Lithuania’s priority within the framework of the Three Seas Initiative is to share its experience and to contribute to the construction of an LNG terminal on the island of Krk. This project is of strategic importance to the entire Adriatic Sea region and the European Union.
