Due to the ongoing conflict with Daesh (also known as ISIL, Islamic State) in Iraq, over 10 million people are in need of assistance, half of them are children. In Mali 2.5 million people are in need of emergency assistance due to the food crisis and armed conflict.
Severe flooding killed at least 22 people, destroyed homes and relevant infrastructure in north-western Macedonia in early August of this year.
The funds will be channelled through the United Nations Children’s Fund to help Iraq. through the United Nations World Food Programme to help Mali. The humanitarian aid for Macedonia will be given to the Macedonian Government.
This aid is Lithuania’s contribution to international efforts to provide emergency humanitarian and disaster relief assistance.
In 2016, Lithuania allocated EUR 771,5 thousand in humanitarian aid, out of which 220 thousand euros were donated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.
