According to Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister, it is important to promote ties between the peoples of Lithuania and Bolivia. The best way to do this is to get to know each other through culture. In the meeting, the officials stressed that the development of tourism would also help to bring our countries closer together. Bolivian students were also invited to study in Lithuania.
The Ambassador presented his letters of credence to the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė on the same day. He is the second Ambassador of Bolivia accredited to Lithuania and resides in Copenhagen.
Lithuania and Bolivia established diplomatic relations on 12 January 1994.
Lithuania and Bolivia are linked by one of the most prominent artists of the Lithuanian diaspora Jonas Rimša. On the invitation of the Government of Bolivia, Rimša went to this country in 1937, founded several art schools, where he taught and created his works of art. The painter was awarded the highest civilian award – the National Order of the Andean Condor in 1950 – and conferred the title of Honorary Citizen of the State of Bolivia. His paintings are considered a national treasure by Bolivia.
