“The intensive development of the NATO-Ukraine partnership is demonstrated by visits of high-ranking NATO officials and officials from NATO countries to Kyiv, and the Ukrainian government’s preparations to seek to adopt NATO standards in the field of defence and security,” said the Ambassador of Lithuania to Ukraine Marius Janukonis who moderated the discussion.
The Director of the NATO Liaison Office in Ukraine Alexander Vinnikov briefed the Ambassadors about the outcomes of this month’s visits to Kyiv of the NATO Deputy Secretary General Alexander Vershbow and the Chairman of NATO’s Military Committee Petr Pavel, preparations for the next NATO Summit in Warsaw, and the NATO-Russia Council meeting. The Director of the NATO Information and Documentation Centre (NIDC) in Ukraine Natalia Nemyliwska told the participants about public diplomacy activities, the NATO-Ukraine partnership in developing strategic communication.
Ambassador Janukonis presented the outcomes of the visit to Ukraine of the Minister of National defence of Lithuania Juozas Olekas on 18-19 April 2016 and the Euro-Atlantic Youth Security Forum that was jointly organized by the Embassy of Lithuania in Ukraine this April in Dnepropetrovsk as well as the Euro-Atlantic Security Policy Day for students in Mariupol.
In 2015-2016, the Embassy of Lithuania in Ukraine is performing the functions of a NATO Contact Point Embassy in Ukraine. Meetings of NATO Ambassadors were resumed in 2015 and are held regularly at the initiative of the Embassy of Lithuania in Ukraine in cooperation with the NATO representation to Ukraine.
