The French fighters have fulfilled NATO's Air Policing mission in the Baltic States already five times. France is invited to continue to further actively contribute to ensuring the implementation of security measures in our region.
In the meeting, the Ministers discussed the achievement of objectives of the Action Plan to implement the Lithuania-France Strategic Partnership to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The head of the Lithuanian diplomacy and the French Minister of State for European Affairs also discussed important items on the EU's agenda and current international policy issues, such as migration and energy security, relations with Russia and the situation in Ukraine. As regards the situation in eastern Ukraine, the Ministers noted the need to support reforms implemented by the Government of Ukraine and called for the full implementation of the Minsk agreements and the settlement of the conflict in the Donbas region.
The Lithuania-France Strategic Partnership was established on 4 September 2009, after the Presidents of the two countries signed a political declaration.
During the visit, Désir will also visit Antakalnis cemetery to honour the memory of the victims of the January 13th and Napoleonic soldiers.
