Stressing Lithuania's commitment to support the fight against terrorism through participation in the coalition to fight the Islamic State (ISIL), Lithuania's Foreign Vice-Minister called for all necessary measures to be taken to prevent terrorist attacks.
According to Bekešius, Lithuania will comply with its obligation to take in refugees despite the recent events.
"Solidarity is very important in addressing today's challenges in the region, which have transcended beyond national borders a long time ago," said Lithuania's Foreign Vice-Minister.
Twenty years have passed since the establishment of the Barcelona process – a regional framework, which represents a wish of the EU to work together with its Mediterranean partners. In 2008, it was re-launched as the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM). Along with the 28 EU member states, 15 Southern Mediterranean, African and Middle Eastern countries are members of the UfM.
