Linkevičius welcomed the first session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Bilateral Economic Cooperation due on 27 November and expressed hope that the Commission, which was starting its activities, would contribute to strengthening bilateral economic cooperation. The Foreign Ministers expressed gladness that the volume of bilateral trade between Lithuania and Armenia had increased more than 5 times over a five-year period.
Linkevičius noted that business missions from Lithuania and Armenia, which had taken place in recent years, demonstrated that both countries took interest in each other's market. Lithuania's Foreign Minister stressed that the countries must exploit their unused potential for economic cooperation.
The head of Lithuania's diplomacy especially stressed that the country was interested in exporting food products, electric power and renewable energy equipment, medical equipment, information technology, logistics services to Armenia.
Lithuania's Foreign Minister also welcomed the decision taken by Armenian representatives to open negotiations on a new framework agreement with the European Union. Lithuania hopes that the negotiations will be held in a constructive manner and that the new agreement will open a new page for Armenia's relations with the EU. Linkevičius stressed that Lithuania supported Armenia's participation in the Eastern Partnership and called on the country to take greater advantage of the proposed sectoral cooperation and to strengthen transport links.
