Lithuania's Foreign Minister stressed that Lithuania and Slovenia enjoyed a friendly relationship, the countries were partners within the European Union and NATO. Linkevičius also expressed his expectation that Slovenia's new Ambassador would successfully contribute to even further advancement in bilateral ties, especially in the economic field and cooperation within international organizations.
As regards Europe's migration crisis, Linkevičius voiced support for Slovenia's aim of managing the flow of thousands of migrants travelling through the country and called on the Western Balkan countries to strengthen their mutual cooperation.
"Lithuania has always stressed the importance of solidarity. Therefore, the country responded to Slovenia's request and sent 20 police officers to help manage the flow of migrants," said Linkevičius.
Lithuania's Foreign Minister underlined that Lithuania supported NATO's open door policy. According to Linkevičius, an invitation for Montenegro to join the Alliance would be significant for stability in the Western Balkans. However, efforts and progress towards NATO membership achieved by other countries, such as Georgia, must also be evaluated accordingly.
