SocietyLithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite has forwarded the Seimas her amendments to the Civil Code which seek to reduce the number of children who are put to child care homes, as well as to promote adoption. The president's amendments suggest limiting the practice of putting children under 3 years to child care homes. The youngest children would be sent to guardianship institutions only in exceptional cases when they need specialised health care or nursing. Also, in those cases when the child's family cannot provide him/her with proper care and community services in their municipality are not properly developed. President Dalia Grybauskaite is the richest among the top three Lithuanian politicians. Her assets amount to LTL 2.45 million (EUR 710,000) and she has no debt.
