These areas had been included in the contamination zone. The areas are subject to intensive monitoring – the territory is inspected looking for fallen boars that are destroyed when found.
Upon noticing a dead boar, people are prohibited from touching it. Instead, they must inform the State Food and Veterinary Service (VMVT) at once on a free round-the-clock telephone or get in touch with its territorial unit.
This year a total of 13 ASF outbreaks have been registered in pig farms (11 in Trakai district and one each in Jonava and Kupiskis districts). As a preventative measure, farmers must not feed pigs with non-heat-treated feed and have to limit visits of outsiders to their farms. Furthermore, disinfection mats have to be used at every entrance into a pig shed and auxiliary premises. Current year's straw must not be used for bedding.
