"The results of many enterprises are encouraging. Cargo handling in the port of Klaipeda is growing, the number of passengers and flights increased in merged airports. Last year the income of Lithuania Post company group increased by as much as one tenth. In the first six months of this year, Lithuanian Railways earned by 2.4 times more compared to the same period last year. Cost-effectiveness of other enterprises has been growing consistently as well," said Transport and Communications Minister Rimantas Sinkevicius.
In the first half of 2015 cargo handling in the port of Klaipeda amounted to 18.86 million tonnes, a year-on-year increase of 6%. In 2014 compared to 2013, cargo handling increased by 9% as 36.4 million tonnes of cargoes were handled in total. Cruise shipping expanded as well. 63 cruise ships docked at Klaipeda terminal in 2014, bringing by 76% more passengers compared to 2013.
State enterprise Lithuanian Airports (Lietuvos Oro Uostai) began operating on 1 July 2014. In the first half of 2015 year-on-year it serviced by 6% more flights and by 11% more passengers. In 2014 the state enterprise earned the net profit of EUR 1.21 million. Income from aviation activities grew by 13.8% in 2014.
According to the ministry, state enterprise Air Navigation (Oro Navigacija) provided air navigation services to nearly 109,000 aircraft in the first half of 2015. This is by 2,900 aircraft or 3% more than in the first half of 2014. Last year the enterprise serviced 227,000 flights or by 6.3% more than in 2013.
In the first half of 2015 year-on-year Lithuania Post (Lietuvos Pastas) provided by 15.4% more postal services and recorded by 23.4% greater income. Income of Lithuania Post company group rose by as much as EUR 6.2 million or 9.6% in 2014 and totalled EUR 64.6 million. Income from courier services grew by 45.5%, financial intermediation by 5.2% and other services by 9.6%.
In the first half of 2015 Lithuanian Railways (Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai) earned the net profit of EUR 5.1 million or by 2.4 times greater than in the respective period of 2014. Last year Lithuanian Railways transported 49 million tonnes of cargo, by 2% more than in 2013. International freight in 2014 grew by 5%.
AB Problematika earned the net profit of EUR 243,000, while AB Detonas – EUR 120,600. Lithuanian Radio and Television Centre (AB Lietuvos Radijo ir Televizijos Centras) began operating profitably as well. Although in 2013 it incurred losses amounting to EUR 1.86 million, in 2014 it earned EUR 72,000 in net profit. In the first half of 2015 it was also profitable, recording EUR 147,000 in net profit.
