The publication presents statistical information about women and men in Lithuania and the European Union: participation in public administration, demographic characteristics, family life, education and science, labour market, crime and violence, etc. Statistical information is presented at the national level.
At the beginning of 2015, the estimated number of women in Lithuania amounted to 1 575 thousand, that of men – 1 46.3 thousand. The number of women exceeded that of men by 228.7 thousand. Women made up 54% of the total population. There were 1 170 women per 1 000 men. At the beginning of 2015, the median age of men was by 6 years shorter than that of women (respectively 39 and 45 year).
Married women aged 20 and older made up 46% of women this age, men – 53%. The number of divorced women was 1.8 times, that of widowed women – as much as 7.5 times higher than that of men. At the beginning of 2015, each third man aged 15 and older and each fourth woman aged 15 and older was single (never married).
In 2014, the average age at first marriage was 27.2 years for women and 29.5 years for men. The number of remarriages made up about one-fifth of the total number of marriages (22% for women and 23% for men).
In 2014, the mean age of women at childbirth was 29.4 years, that of women at the birth of the first child – 27 years. The average number of children who were born during a woman's fertile period was 1.63. Every third child was born to an unmarried woman.
