"Analysts relate global water consumption with improving economic situation. Increasing consumption of cold tap water suggests that the standard of living is improving in Lithuania. However, water consumption in the most economically advanced countries is still by 2-3 times greater than in Lithuania," said Bronius Miezutavicius, President of the Lithuanian Water Suppliers Association.
In 2014, daily consumption of district-supplied cold tap water was 65.7 litres per capita. This is by 4% more compared to 2013, when 63.2 litres per capita were consumed.
Lithuanian water suppliers last year supplied households and companies with 122 million cubic metres of water, by 2 million cubic metres more than in 2013.
Meanwhile, the amount of wastewater treated decreased by 5%. In 2014, water supplying companies treated 148 million cubic metres of wastewater, by 8 million cubic metres less than in 2013.
