Former president of Lithuania Adamkus undergoes surgery

Former president of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus has undergone endoscopic examination of the bladder and a removal of the right kidney and ureter. The surgery was carried out on Thursday at Vilnius University Hospital Santariskes Clinics. The surgery was performed by Prof Feliksas Jankevicius, Director of the Centre of Urology. According to him, the operation lasted from 9 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and was successful. "There were no complications, blood loss was nil, but, what is most important, the state is satisfactory," said Jankevicius. Currently Adamkus is being monitored at the reanimation-intensive therapy ward.
