Previously, the state enterprise was under the governance of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Lithuania. The primary goal of Infostruktura is to establish secure network and ICT services infrastructure designed for interaction between national institutions, as well as their communication with EU member-states counterparts, the Ministry of Transport and Communications said.
"The activities of this state enterprise are directly related to the functions of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, which coordinates operations of electronic communications used for ensuring national defence and security within its competence and makes public policy in the area of electronic communication. Therefore, this decision was made in order to optimize functions of the company," said Rimantas Sinkevicius, minister of transport and communications.
It is expected that the consolidation of the activities of Infostruktura and other authorities under the governance of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of a similar profile will contribute to the successful implementation of strategic projects significant for national security, as well as increase the efficiency of communication infrastructure management, allow to develop the existing and establish new infrastructure, and improve the quality of provided services.
98% of Infostruktura clients are public institutions. The enterprise provides services to the Presidential Palace, the Seimas, other ministries, State Security Department, Special Investigation Service and other authorities.
