48.7% of all goods were transported by railway, 44.7% by road, 6% by sea, 0.5% by inland water and 0.001% by air transport.
In the fourth quarter of 2014, compared to the fourth quarter of 2013, transportation of goods by railway increased by 3%, from 12.6 to 12.9 million tonnes, whereas by road by 1.2%, from 11.7 to 11.9 million tonnes. However, transportation of goods via sea transport decreased by 15.9%, from 1.9 to 1.6 million tonnes; by Lithuanian airline aircraft by 15.7%, from 0.22 to 0.19 thousand tonnes; by internal water transportation by 3.9%, from 146.8 to 141.1 thousand tonnes.
In the fourth quarter of 2014, all types of transport carried by 1.2% less passengers compared to the fourth quarter of 2013, a decrease from 114.3 to 113 million. 98.7% of all passengers were carried by road transport, 1% by rail, 0.2% by inland water and 0.1% each by air and sea transport.
In 2014, compared to 2013, all types of transport carried by 4.9% more goods, an increase from 108.8 to 114.1 million tonnes, and by 3.7% more passengers, an increase from 411.1 to 426.4 million.
