"The new Logistics Centre will allow strengthening the position of Lithuanian Post in the growing parcel market. The company continues to establish numerous international relations, becomes a transit gateway to the European, Russian and Belarusian markets, and collaborates with such e-commerce leading countries as China," said Lithuanian Minister of Transport and Communications Rimantas Sinkevicius during the opening ceremony, the Ministry reports.
The new Logistics Centre is located in Lithuania's geographical centre with well-developed transportation infrastructure Ramuciu village, Kaunas district. In is expected that the increased number of postal delivery services will be advantageous also to the Kaunas Airport, which is located nearly, and national railway and other logistics companies.
According to the minister, parcel market is very promising and rapidly growing online trade increases the extent of its development. With the investments made in the postal infrastructure, Lithuanian post becomes a serious player in the market.
It is expected that the new centre will start to operate already in March. It will enable to handle several times more items compared with the present-day capacity and further optimize the entire collection and distribution logistics chain.
