Scammers present a forged document entitled "Declaration Document for the State Tax Inspectorate" where residents should itemise the euro and litas banknotes in their possession.
"We kindly ask Lithuania's residents to stay vigilant and shut their door for any "mobile VMI couriers" who offer to count and register their money," says Stase Aliukonyte-Sniriene, head of the VMI Department of Services to Taxpayers.
She highlights that no representatives of any state institutions, such as the VMI, the Financial Crime Investigation Service (FNTT) or the police, go to people's houses to register and exchanger their money.
