There were 3.663,000 Lithuanians in the world from 2005 to 2014. A total of 83.1% or 3.043,400 lived in Lithuania, while 16.9% or 619,600 resided abroad.
The majority (82%, or 508,200) of Lithuanians living abroad were in Europe, 13.7% (84,900) in North America and 4.3% (26,500) lived in other continents.
Every fifth Lithuanian living abroad resided in the United Kingdom, every seventh – in the Russian Federation and every tenth was in Poland.
Canada stood out by the numbers of Lithuania: it was home for 7.9% of all foreign Lithuanians, Germany – 7%, Ireland – 6.4%, the USA – 5.8% and Latvia – 5.6%.
Every fifth Lithuanian living abroad was a child under 14 years old. The biggest number of them was registered in Ireland where they accounted for 20.7% of all Lithuanians residing in Ireland.
Every fifth foreign Lithuanian was 65 years old or older; the majority of them lived in Poland where they made 77.3% of all Lithuanians who resided in the country.
