If the draft law is adopted, persons younger than 18 years will be prohibited from using or owning electronic cigarettes.
The initiator of the project, Chair of the Seimas Committee on Health Dangute Mikutiene, says regulation of the market of these products must be promptly implemented.
It is hoped the amendments will be adopted already this year. The World Health Organisation has also called for banning sale of e-cigarettes to minors.
Based on new requirements producers of e-cigarettes will have to include information about the manufacturer, the product's composition and possible side effects. Moreover, advertising of e-cigarettes will be banned.
Seeking to regulate the market, producers and importers will have to annually provide authorised institutions with information about sales' volumes and consumer groups as well as other important data.
The draft law is based on the new Tobacco Products' Directive of the EU which has to be transferred to Lithuanian national law by spring 2016.
