The initiators of the amendments said it would account for approximately LTL 14 million (EUR 4 million) of the state budget. The new amendments to the Law on Tobacco Control received 66 votes in favour, with no votes against and 3 abstentions.
The funds from the Programme could be used to finance the prevention of use of psychoactive substances, namely, prevention programmes, projects, research, social advertising, and other relevant activities.
The adopted amendments will enter into force on 1 January of 2015. Therefore, the Government will have to adopt the implementing legislation by the end of the year.
