The head of the Lithuanian Tourist Association Danutė Mažeikienė claims that Lithuanian tourism has been far too much oriented to the Russian tourists and did not pay much attention to visitors from other countries.
'It was the market which we strongly sought to develop and implemented various measures to activate it,' said D.Mažeikienė.
However, former director of the Department of Tourism Raimonda Balnienė disagreed with the D. Mažeikienė and claimed that quite a lot of attention was paid to the ten fundamental tourism markets.
It is estimated that most money in Lithuania is spent by Russian, German, American, and British tourists. One tourist from one of the above mentioned countries spends 1.5 thousand litas in average during one trip. According to the data of Statistics Lithuania, biggest number of tourists came to Lithuania from Belarus, Russia, Germany, Poland, and Latvia.
