This is the next step following the technical arrangement signed by Lithuania, Latvia and Finland in 2024 and marks a new stage of multi-purpose attack speed craft research and progress project and phase of development aimed at strengthening national defence.
Lithuania gets two advanced multi-role jet attack craft equipped with SPIKE NLOS missile launchers and remote heavy machine-gun systems on the basis of the contract.
“The new multi-purpose attack craft will strengthen our navy and ensure a faster response to security challenges in our regional waters. Aside from that, this contract is an excellent example of small countries building a stronger and more effective defence through cooperation thus contributing to stability and security in the entire Baltic region,” said Minister of National Defence Dovilė Šakalienė.
The craft will help to prevent threats from the Gulf of Finland to the Curonian Lagoon. The unique constriction and propulsion of the craft makes them suitable for particularly shallow waters and thus to respond to threats on land and in maritime environment with exceptional speed.
The purchased craft will be assigned with the Lithuanian navy while the contract also advances local industry through support to cooperation scope in both Lithuania and Latvia, and secures chains of supply for the long-term as well.
