Former finance minister, member of the party Order and Justice Vytautas Galvonas, Kupiskis Distric Mayor Jonas Jarutis, Leonas Kerosiejus and Tomas Legacinskas – heads of the Lithuanian Fish Processing Association – talk about the plans of opening a new fish farming and processing facility which will breed and process almost 4,000 tonnes of fish.
They say that the company will first of all farm catfish, sturgeon and tilapia, later – other tasty and nutritious fish. Kupiskis district mayor mentioned that the locals at first were rather suspicious about the new project.
The mayor is very happy that the opening of a fish processing company became possible and the district with 1,500 jobless people will be able to employ at least a fifth of them. Koresiejus claims that according to data collected by scientists one person in Lithuania eats only 12.5 kg of fish a year, while a Japanese eats as many as 169 kilograms, which gives hopes about changing eating habits of Lithuanians once more fish are bred in the country.
