According to the data of Lithuanian national Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-LT), the largest part of electronic attack cases was related to computers' hardware that was connected to Internet and had dangerous gaps in security systems.
In the third quarter of 2014 CERT-LT registered 3 647 dangerous security system gaps (it is 10 percent more than in the second quarter). Also, there were 2 807 cases of the malicious programming (16 percent more) and 1 222 cases of computer over-taking (113 percent more).
According to the CERT-LT data, most attacks carried out to take-over the computers were made by automated manner. "Taking-over" attacks were connected to the vulnerable computers' hardware and cases of the malicious programming were connected to the botnets (group of computers infected by malicious programming). The amount of phishing attacks was about two times higher in the analysed period;
CERT-LT analysed 220 submissions of these attacks. The largest part of these submissions was related to fake websites of non-existing financial companies and banks. Using the spam or other different kinds of programming the criminals suggested visiting fake websites in order to get access to the password or other personal information.
Also, the number of emails sent by fake network operators containing counterfeit bills or documents infected with virus has increased.
