The short films festival will last until 12th October in Vilnius city cinema halls 'Skalvija' and 'Pasaka'. Vilnius residents will be able to see 55 films from 27 countries of the world. Poland will present such movies as 'Hippos' (animation) produced by Piotr Dumała and 'Stranger' produced by Piotr Domalewski.
The slogan of the festival is 'Short but movies'. According to Marija Ruzgytė, one of the organizers of the festival, short films started the history of the cinema and today they are not going to give away their unique place in the cinema world.
There are many fans of the 'Vilniaus kino šortai'. Besides, this festival gained an international recognition, as each year there are guests from Finland, Israel, Greece, Romania, the Netherlands, Denmark, Bulgaria, and Poland coming to see the films.
In addition this festival hosts not only European films. Participants may see works produced by directors from Iran, Argentina, South Korea, or Vietnam. Lots of films were shown at the international film festivals in Cannes, Berlin, Locarno, Karlovy Vary, and others.
The director of the festival Rimantė Daugėlaitė-Cegelskienė said that this year more than two thousand movies were sent for the competition. The developers had a lot of work in order to select 55 movies which would be presented in the competition. Directors of the movies were distinguished by their sharp look of the world, by presenting interesting and often difficult subjects such as war, deportation, homophobia, immigration. Also directors impress with original artistic ideas. During the festival participants are able to see Animation documentaries, photo movies, one frame film and a film lasting just two minutes.
