Lithuanian Department of Statistics announced that the difference between men and women salaries is even greater in businesses and it has reached 16.3 percent in 2013. But it has to be mentioned, that this difference has decreased by 0.3 percent during one year.
The difference between men and women wages working in public sector was 13.3 percent in 2013. In private sector the difference was higher by 2.5 percent and reached 15.8 percent.
Last year, the biggest difference between men and women salaries was reported in financial services and insurance sectors (39.9 percent), IT companies (27.8%), manufacturing industry (25.7%), health care, community service, wholesale and retail trade, vehicles repair companies (22.3%).
These differences in wages were influenced by social and economic factors such as the number of women and men working in an industry, their occupied position, education level, and age and work experience. The legislative factors were not affecting the differences.
The biggest difference in wages was observed in 35-44 years age group (17.9 percent), the lowest - among men and women who are 65 years and older (5.7 percent) and among persons under 25 years old (7.3 percent).
The difference in wages in the European Union amounted to 16.5 percent in 2012. The lowest difference was noted in Slovenia (2.5 percent), while the largest one - in Estonia (30 percent).
