According to the data of electricity transmission system operator Litgrid, the aggregate amount of electricity generated in Lithuania somewhat declined. All power plants operating in Lithuania generated 2,231.1 GWh of electricity in the first nine months of 2014, or by 13.2% less year-on-year. Last year, in January-September, Lithuania's power plants generated 2,570.7 GWh of electricity.
Wind farms should enjoy successful results in late 2014, their electricity output may grow several times due to stronger winds. In the last three months of 2013, wind farms generated almost half (48.8% or 292.9 GWh) of their yearly electricity production. Throughout 2013 electricity production by wind farms reached 599.99 GWh or 6% of the total amount consumed in Lithuania.
Currently 17 wind farms operate in Lithuania with the total installed capacity of 282 megawatts (MW).
