Bank card payments
Paper tickets currently sold by drivers will be replaced by a full-price 60-minute e-ticket (price €0.90). It will be available for purchase at the composter using a contactless bank card. Discounted tickets of 80% and 50% will be available using the JUDU/Vilnius Resident Card and the mobile apps m.Ticket and Trafi.
Paper single tickets will be available until 1 September 2024 and will be valid until 2027.
These changes will make it easier and more convenient for passengers to choose and pay for their tickets, reducing the workload of drivers and the administrative burden on carriers.
Nearly unused types of tickets will be phased out
To ensure a simpler and more convenient ticket choice for both infrequent and regular public transport users, unpopular 5- and 10-day tickets, which account for less than 1% of total public transport ticket sales, will be discontinued from 8 January 2024. Also, the least frequently purchased 180-day (6-month) and 270-day (9-month) tickets (both weekday and all-day) will disappear. These types of tickets will be redeemable within 3 years from the date of purchase.
After these changes, short-term tickets of 30 and 60 minutes, 1- and 3-day fixed-term tickets and long-term tickets of 30 days (1 month), 90 days (3 months) and 365 days (12 months), valid for all days of the week and weekdays only, will remain available.
These changes will not change ticket prices. All tickets, except for the single e-ticket purchased with a bank card at the composter, will be subject to the current discounts and concessions. The changes will replace the current 51 ticket types with 30 main ticket types, as well as all special tickets: “Build and Ride”, “Primary School Ticket”, special 12-month ticket, control ticket and others.
New functionality allows you to choose
As of 27 May this year, you can use the “Ticket on the go” service. As of 31 December 2023, the new composters in Vilnius City public transport allow you to choose which ticket you want to activate. It is important to note that top-ups will not disappear and can be used.
Under the old e-ticketing system, public transport passengers with different types of tickets did not have the option to choose which ticket to activate – the system automatically selected the oldest ticket, which often caused inconvenience. Therefore, passengers were offered the alternative of topping up their JUDU/Vilnius card with e-money, which could be used to purchase short-term 30 and 60 minute tickets.
