"Lithuania's space industry is growing - we are strengthening the country's scientific and technological potential in this sector, we are investing in development, and the active involvement of global space companies such as SpaceX in our country would give a positive boost to the entire ecosystem and encourage innovation," said the Minister A. Armonaitė.
During the meeting, potential areas of cooperation were discussed, such as the development of satellite technology, optics, laser technology, as well as the prospects of the space industry and the promotion of innovation.
Last year, the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation presented a concept for the development of the Lithuanian space sector. Lithuania aims to become a provider of competitive space services and to develop solutions and technologies based on advanced research.
The country's scientific institutions and space companies are actively involved in the European Space Agency (ESA) and other international programmes, and since last year, Lithuania has an ESA business incubator (ESA BIC Lithuania), which aims to help the country's promising space start-ups grow. The incubator is expected to select and support 20 start-ups over the coming years and help them develop their ideas into high value-added space businesses.
