‘These projects hold significant and long-lasting importance as they focus on revamping Ukraine’s education sector and bolstering institutional capabilities. Lithuania’s support for Ukraine’s reconstruction is particularly meaningful, awaited, and, as we can see today, productive: the projects launched last year have already been completed or are at the finishing line. I am very pleased that our reconstructed nursery school, Rūta, is opening its doors in Irpin on August 24th. This demonstrates not only the unity between our countries but also the institutional capabilities of Lithuania and internationally recognized expertise’, said Giedrė Balčytytė, the Chancellor of the Government.
The technical design of the new state-of-the-art School of the Future in Ukraine will be developed in cooperation with the Agency for Reconstruction, the Lithuanian Union of Architects and other partners in Ukraine and the European Union. The best technical design will be selected through tendering process. The project budget is EUR 500 000.
In another project approved by the Government, the CPMA will strengthen the administrative capacities of the State Agency for Reconstruction and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine by sharing its long-standing experience with Ukrainian partners. Expert support in public procurement and other relevant areas will be provided in line with the European Commission’s Pillar assessment methodology. The preliminary value of the project is EUR 300 000.
In the past year, Lithuania actively engaged in executing four bilateral pilot projects in Ukraine, directly responding to the requirements of a nation grappling with the repercussions of Russia’s military aggression. During this spring, the construction of a mobile residential camp accommodating 36 families in Borodyanka was successfully finalized. Simultaneously, the outcomes of the electricity distribution network modernization project for Mykolaivoblenergo in Mykolaiv (including the creation of a model) were formally presented to Ukrainian authorities in early August. Additionally, the reconstruction of the nursery school, Rūta, in Irpin is nearing completion.
The list of children wishing to attend the nursery is already full. The opening date of the nursery is 24 August. It was on this date exactly one year ago that the Government approved the first pilot Ukraine’s reconstruction.
Lithuania is also moving forward with the renovation of a school in Borodyanka (scheduled to be opened in autumn).
