On July 25 NATO Baltic Air Policing Detachment fighter jets intercepted one IL-20 flying through international airspace from the mainland of the Russian Federation to Kaliningrad without the pre-filed flight plan, with its onboard transponder off, not maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre.
On July 26 NATO Air Policing fighter aircraft were patrolling the airspace border of the Baltic states and the Russian Federation and Belarus.
On July 26 NATO fighter aircraft intercepted one IL-20 and two SU-27 flying in international airspace from Kaliningrad and then back. The IL-20 had its onboard transponder switched on, the two SU-27did not, none of the aircraft kept radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre nor had pre-filed flight plans.
On July 28 NATO Air Policing fighter aircraft intercepted one IL-20 flying from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia. NATO aircraft also intercepted two SU-27s en route from Kaliningrad into international airspace and back. The IL-20 had its onboard transponder on, the two SU-27 did not, none of the aircraft kept radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre nor had pre-filed flight plans.
