In his welcome address, Gitanas Nausėda underlined that there are many wide opportunities for two sovereign countries – Lithuania and Armenia – to intensify contacts in the economic area.
According to the President, Lithuania could provide Armenia’s economy with more international links. “We have an open, export-oriented economy – one of the 15 most diversified in the world. The ability to adapt and look for new markets is one of our greatest strengths, and also the foundation of Lithuania’s long-term success,” the President said.
Gitanas Nausėda underscored the huge positive effect of EU membership on the Lithuanian economy. Lithuania’s membership in the European Union is an example of success: the country’s GDP per capita has grown the most since 2000 among all EU newcomers. Lithuania stands for further strengthening relations between the European Union and Armenia. The President expressed his strong belief that closer engagement with the EU would mean more support for a stronger, more prosperous, resilient, and democratic Armenia.
“To maintain momentum, both Lithuania and the European Union as a whole, cannot afford to stand still. Therefore, the European Commission has already submitted draft legislation regulating a breakthrough in the so-called zero pollution or net-zero manufacturing. This green turn marks a unique opportunity for the Lithuanian business community. It could also profit innovative Armenian companies,” the President said.
The President expressed his delight that today’s business forum has been joined by information technology, renewables and green growth-oriented companies, textile, pharmacy and food industry counterparties from both Lithuania and Armenia. He thanked Lithuania’s agency “Litfood”, the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists, the Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen of Armenia, Lithuania’s Innovation Agency for organizing the forum.
